Nuihau Sprints Well At Hastings

“The Press” Special Service HASTINGS.

Nuihau, one of last season’s most promising two-year-olds, which may resume racing on the second day of the Wanganui meeting, impressed in a short sprint gallop at Hastings yesterday. Nuihau has made steady progress since he resumed work, but is not being hurried. He could have an outstanding year. Deep Blue, a good third in the Wharangi Hack Handicap al Foxton last Saturday, ran three furlongs easily, ready for her engagement in the Durie Hack Handicap at Wanganui. The plough was used for fast work. ?t was slushy but quite fast. Most of the work was quiet. On the plough, Nuihau (K. Cullen) ran three furlongs in 38 l-ssec. He strode very boldly over the final furlong. Scot (R. M. Hastings) took 52 4-ssec for half a mile, the last three in 39 3-ssec. Then he ran half a mile in 55sec, the last three in 43sec. He will contest the Okehu Hack Hurdles at Wanganui this week.

Giltlight (A. T. Jones) and Serene Summer (W. Sutherland) were given easy work over half a mile in 57sec, the last three in 43sec. They continue to do well for K. Couper. Deep Blue «K. S. Cullen) took 43sec for the last three furlongs of an easy five. She ran a splendid race for third to

Game and Redalre at Foxton. and could be hard to beat in the Durie Hack Handicap this week.
