Bold Venture Fit Sprinter

The Press’' Special Service

DUNEPIN.

Bold Venture showed that he was ready for his task in the G. J. Barton Memorial at the Otago Hunt meeting, when he sprinted brilliantly at Wingatui yesterday.

Ridden by his trainer, A. I. Powell, the Underwood gelding did not appear to be extended when he galloped half a mile on the sand in 52sec, the last three furlongs in 39sec.

The work was held in light rain. The grass tracks were waterlogged, but the sand track was firm underneath. On the same track Flowing Gold (D. A. Adams) and Polar (J. L. Coulter) were also impressive over five furlongs in Imin 6sec, the last half-mile in 53sec.

These two members of A. N. Didham’s team are to make fresh starts at the Otago Hunt meeting. Flowing Gold has started only twice for a second and a win at the Dunedin winter meeting. The Dogger Bank gelding is raced by Messrs E. C. Hocking, of Dunedin, and J. Keane, of Waimate. Polar, which has not raced since January, is owned by Mr' H. G. McLeod, of Central Otago, who has a fairly large team in work.

and Fontara <D. A. Adams) sprinted half a mile in 53sec. Big Fellow (Bellagioca—Lady Scholar) and Fontara (Kurdistan —Senna) are rival candidates for the Trial Stakes No. 1.

Belltana, ridden by his race jockey. A. K. Robinson, worked clear of Bill Tee (R. McKissock) at the end of half a mile on the inside grass in 56sec, the opening furlong in 13sec.

B. R. Thomson has arrived at Wingatui from Omakau with Grey Flash and Satinette. Both horses have come through a solid preparation and are ready to make fresh starts on Saturday. The team will remain at Wingatui until the new year. The Melbourne Cup candidate, Palisade, was given pace work. He has been entered for the sprint on the second day of the Dunedin Jockey Club’s spring meeting.
