Fruit Prices Defended

WELLINGTON, Aug. 30
When people outside the industry urged fruit-growers to cut costs they were often really asking for a reduction in profit margins, the chairman of the Fruitgrowers' Federation (Mr T. F. A. Archer) ! said today. “The fruit-grower is only receiving the increases which are in line with other sections of the community and he is | not going to be reduced to the I level of a peasant.” I Mr Archer said the industry realised the need to watch costs, and with the help of scientists and with other advances this aspect was not being neglected.
Chathams-bound.—The converted trawler Martyn, which has been undergoing a major refit at Lyttelton, is expected to go to the Chathams after trials.
