REPORT AND PRICE RANGE

The official report on yesterday's- wool sale issued by the Christchurch Woolbrokers’ Association. in conjunction with the New Zealand Woolbuyers’ Association and the New Zealand Wool Commission, says:

“The opening wool sale of the 1966-67 season was held yesterday in Christchurch when a total offering of 20,892 bales was submitted by four selling brokers. This sale used to be regarded as mainly a crutching offering, but it now includes a considerable quantity of fleece wool, both halfbreds and crossbreds. as well as small quantities of second-shear and lambs’ wool.

“Taken as a whole the wool opened up well, being mainly well grown and sound, but many lots were carrying a fair amount of condition. The crutchings. also, were rather heavier than usual and some otherwise good lines suffered from faulty preparation. There ation than usual for this early sale, but the offering included quite a number of clean, attractive lots, especially in the finer sorts.

“The sale opened before a full attendance of buyers. Competition was good and at times keen, with the main bidding from the Continent. Japan and local mills gave support to the best of the finer qualities. Compared with the recent Timaru sale, however, halfbreds are quoted as being 2J per cent cheaper. Coarse crossbreds showed little change, with fine and medium crossbreds selling in buyers’ favour. Inferior wools were not in demand, and passings were fairly heavy for these sorts. The Wool CommisF : on's support was confined mainly to faulty crossbred crutchings and short crossbred oddments.” The following is the official
