Joint Leader In Chess
After three rounds. B. Anderson (Canterbury) and A. Day (Auckland) are leading with 21 points in the New Zealand schoolboys' chess championship being played in Christchurch. Day caused two surprizes yesterday. He beat R. Metge (Auckland). expected to be a top contender. and drew with B. Anderson (Canterbury), who is the present champion, and South Island senior champion, and Is generally rated one of the top players In New Zealand. Results:— Round Two.—P. Kelly (Wellington) beat R. Chaplin (Canterbury). A. Day (Auckland) beat R. Metge tAucklandi, B. Anderson (Canterbury) beat E. Bures (Wellington), B. Patterson (Otago) beat K. Bentson (Otago).
Round Three.—Metge beat Kelly. Day drew with Anderson. Patterson beat Bures. The game between Chanlin and Bentson was adjourned
