R. J. Charles of New Zealand and 11 professionals from Australia are among the field of 165 which will tee off today for the Carling golf title. The United States Open champion, Billy Casper is 4 to 1 favourite for the title, a three-year-old championship over 72 holes. Australia's P. Thomson, who has picked up three of his five British Open titles over Birkdaie’s rugged 7073-yard par-73 links, is rated at 8 to 1. Total prize money is £71,430 with a top prize of £12,500.
