USE OF N.Z. PRODUCTS

Suggestion By Builders

(N Z. Press Association)

AUCKLAND, August 30.

The Auckland Timber Merchants Association will urge the building programmer (Mr R. F. Paris) to give priority to projects built with New Zealand material, to help the balance-of-payments problem. Mr C. W. Pollard, the association’s president, said today that Government restrictions on building had caused the demand for New Zealand products to drop. Mr Pollard said the association's executive “viewed with concern the now-obvious effects of restraints created by Government policy in regard to the building industry.” Building permits issued for houses and flats in Auckland were 622 fewer than last year, with similar trends in permits for commercial building.
