Bus Route Extension Rejected By Board
No extension of the Bryndwr route from Charlcott street was intended at present, the Christchurch Transport Board advised the Bumside Residents’ Association yesterday. The association had asked for an extension to Breens road: but the works and traffic committee said the residential area was well served by two legs of the route.
Until an industrial area was developed to the north of Breens road no extension was warranted, but when the industrial area opened up the logical extension would be to Wooldridge road. A diversion of Rowan avenue trips along Breezes road to Cuthberts road, requested by the Aranui Progress League, was also refused by the board.
When the reclaimed land to the north of Porchester street and to the west of Pages road was more built upon it would be necessary to augment the New Brighton service further along Pages road beyond Rowan avenue, the works and traffic committee said. If buses now running to Rowan avenue were diverted along Breezes road to Cuthberts road it would not be possible to do this.
