CANTEEN AT MT. COOK

Sales During Renovations

A temporary canteen for the sale of essential foods will be provided at Mount Cook while the Tourist Hotel Corporation’s restaurant and shop are closed for renovations and additions.

Arrangements for the canteen will be made by the Mount Cook National Park Board The chairman of the board (Mr N. S. Coad) said yesterday that the board realised that many people relied on being able to obtain food and groceries at the store and arrangements would be made to cater for them during the summer season while the corporation’s building programme was in progress.

“The temporary canteen will probably be operated from early in October until the corporation is able to reopen its shop,” Mr Coad said. “While we regret that a full service cannot be provided, it is essential that the corporation be permitted to carry out its building without being hampered."

He said the board would ensure that some service was available. The canteen would probably carry essential lines such as tinned foods, butter, milk, bread and eggs.
