Break Through Beats Trotters

Break Through, the winner of two races last term, gained his most important win for his Leeston ownertrainer, A. L. Pratt, when he led almost all the way in the Winter Handicap at Addington Raceway on Saturday evening.

Break Through made a bound at the start, but came down trotting. He was always travelling comfortably in the lead, being trailed for most of the way by Towser. Break Through was challenged strongly in the run home, but was not really troubled to win by a short length from Towser, which is racing most generously. Le Chant, which had trouble securing a clear run at the straight entrance, came home with E determined run for third another short length away and might have been a little unlucky. Flying Maiden passed a few hones over the final two furlongs, but fourth was the best she could do. Tronso was close up fifth, clear of Fourina and Ardleigh, which was under pressure three furlongs out

The win favourite. Queen’s Cord, finished ninth. She put little life into her work and was struggling for most of the way.

Uteena broke at the end of a furlong-

Sprint Win

Turbulence, best known as a stayer, upset calculations with a win in the Lions’ Handicap, a sprint race. She was the 8, 7 favourite and paid £l9 5s for a win. As in her race a week earlier when she finished fifth. Turbulence began splendidly and was about fourth until the straight entrance. R. Young pulled her wide to challenge and she finished in grand style to beat Bright Highland by half a length, with the same margin back to Password, which had his chance. Happy Songster, last at the two furlongs, made ground along the inside to finish fourth another halflength away, with Lin Dor, close up throughout, beaten off fifth, ahead of Town Martial, Smoke Screen and Cuddle Doon.
