Man Charged
With Murder (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, August 22. Handcuffed to a plain clothes policeman, Herbert Desmond McElroy, aged 41, a barman, appeared before Mr F. McCarthy, S.M., this morning, charged with the murder of Nancy Olivena Barraclough, aged 41, a factory worker, and the mother of three children. Police found the woman’s body in a clothes closet in a Ponsonby boarding house on Saturday night. She had been missing for several days. Sergeant M. K. Huggard asked for two weeks’ remand until September 5. This was granted.
