Carpeting The Kitchen
The natural textured look in pleasing abstract designs is top news in carpets just now, and if you are considering carpeting the kitchen it is an ideal style. This applies particularly to the “flagstone look”—an interesting development which uses cut and uncut pile of different lengths. Kitchen carpets need to be sturdy to stand wear and cleaning; obviously, a delicate, plain, pastel carpet would be real madness. But the popular textured, patterned carpets are ideal for kitchens, and bathroom too. Keep a mat or run in front of the sink and stove. “Natural” carpets use designs of leaves, flowers, ferns and even pebbles. Soft peaty colours, gentle greens and blues, enhance these designs. For a kitchen, you do not necessarily need any special carpeting—just one that does not mind hard work. A new triple blend of wool and synthetic fibres is ideal for the job. Remember, carpets do not like to be soaked in water. When cleaning them, use the foam from a detergent, and whisk it away with the vacuum cleaner.
