Hercules Due

A United States Navy VX6 Hercules will land at Christchurch airport today. The plane, on a crew familiarisation flight from Quonset Point, Rhode Island, should have arrived yesterday. A second Hercules is due at the week-end on a similar flight. The first aircraft bringing the key staff to the United States Navy base at Christchurch airport is due on September 5. The commander of the United States Navy Antarctic support force (RearAdmiral F. E. Bakutis) is due on September 22. The Navy is planning to make the first flight of the season to McMurdo Station from Christchurch on October 1. Whether the flight leaves on the target date will depend on the weather.
