DETECTING CANCER
Smear Method Praised (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Aug. 22. The use of cervical smears as a detection method had resulted in a decrease in cases of serious cancer in women, said Dr. H. F. Bettinger, consulting gynaecological pathologist to the Royal Women’s Hospital in Melbourne, when he arrived in Auckland. Dr. Bettinger, who will lecture at the National Women’s Hospital, Auckland, during the next two weeks, said that unfortunately the cervical smear method of detection was not in world-wide use.
