GUN USE ALLEGED

(N.Z. Press Association) TAIHAPE, Aug. 16. Peter William Mortensen, aged 17, a farmhand, of Taihape, appeared before Mr L. R. Franks, J.P., at Taihape Court this morning on charges relating to a car allegedly taken at gun ! point at Pungataua, near j Taihape, last night. Mortensen was charged with assaulting Lyall Davey with the intention of unlaw-1 fully taking a car and also! charged with unlawfully converting to his own use a 1962! Morris car valued at £460, j the property of Lyall Davey. Mortensen was remanded in custody to appear at Wanganui on August 23. Detective-Sergeant B. N. i Middleton told the Court that | the offences were alleged to! have taken place on Monday and Mortensen had been arrested at Ohakune. The police opposed bail, said the detective-sergeant. The matter of bail was discussed in chambers and then announced that it would be refused. Detective-Sergeant Middleton said that other charges were pending.
