Radio Stories Accepted
The N.Z.B.C. has offered to buy short stories entered in the Christchurch Writers’ Association’s radio story competition by Mrs lole Clarke and Mrs Anne Mulcock.
Mrs Clarke and her family came to New Zealand from Johannesburg five years ago. Apart from a brief stay in Auckland, the family has lived in Christchurch. Mrs Clarke has been a member of the association for three years.
Her story, called "The Fence." is about a family who moved from a closelyknit environment to a city suburb, and its decision to return to its former community because a young son finds it difficult to adjust to his new life.
Before coming to New Zea land. Mrs Clarke did some writing. Now that her family is almost independent she finds she has more time to write. The N.Z.B.C. has produced two of her short stories and
accepted about four other scripts, which were broadcast in women’s sessions. Mrs Mulcock’s story, called “The Great Aunts,” is about two old women who look upon England as home although they have onlyvisited it. Both are painters who portray English scenes.
Mrs Mulcock was born in the North Island and has been a member of the New Zealand Writers’ Association for about two years. She joined the Christchurch association this year. She has had five or six short stories published in the “Listener” and several verses.
