TWO TOUGH RACES N.Z. Cyclist's Raw Deal

(Special Correspondent N.Z.P.A ) KINGSTON. The New Zealand track cyclist. G. Wright, will have to ride two events within half-an-hour at the Commonwealth Games tonight.

This is because the organising committee transferred his speciality event, the 1000 metres time trial, from yesterday to today. Wright is also entered as one of a three-man team in the 10 miles, the last event on the track cycling programme. This is estimated to take place about 30 ininutt/ after his ride in the time trials. The New Zealand cycling manager, Mr M. Gamble, said that the decision had been made by the organising committee for “complicated, administrative reasons.” Protect Over-ruled He had lodged a protest against the transfer on the

grounds that it would not allow Wright to give his best in the 10 miles, but the protest had been over ruled. Mr Gamble said that the transfer was an inconvience to most riders, although the English team is sufficiently big to enable it to have separate 10-mile and time trial riders. “Apparently the committee has the power to do this but

there is such a thing as commonsense,” said Mr Gamble. “We feel they should have shifted the semi-finals of the pursuit instead of the time trial.' The countries generail) are upset by this change." “Give His Best” Mr Gamble said that Wright had accepted the situation and was fully prepared to ride well in the 10 miles after giving his “very best” in the time trial, for which he had been first selected. The other New Zealand riders in the 10 miles are J. Bigwood and L. Booth. New Zealand took a silver medal in this event at Perth when W. Johnston sprinted home second. England and TrinidadTobago took the gold medals in the two cycling events decided yesterday. H. Porter (England) won the 4000 metres individual pursuit and R. Gibbon the 1000 metres sprint.
