Riccarton H.S. Loses To Dunedin School

Riccarton High School lost the t P.T.A. challenge shield when it i was beaten. 7i points to 4s. by [ Kaikorai Valley High School (Dunedin) in their annual win- j ter sports tournament at Riccarton High School yesterday. In a scrappy rugged Rugby J I encounter Riccarton beat Kai-' korai 14-6. Both teams gavej away chances, but Kaikorai was distinctly unlucky not to score | on many occasions. Only des- j perate defence saved Riccarton and it won because it ran with ■far more purpose on attack. ! i G. Williams and I. Dalzell j scored tries for Riccarton and | G. Williams kicked two penalties and a conversion. For Kaikorai. L. Jaffray scored a try and N. Davidson kicked a penalty. Outstanding Riccarton players [included T. Caldwell, R. Wili son. and G. Eastwick, while A. Bates. G. West and N. Davidson were competent for Kaikorai. Kaikorai convincingly won the girls’ basketball, winning the; A game 29-18 and the B game, 20-5 The Kaikorai girls, wtih ■ L Paulin, C. Lambert and P.

•Calder being outstanding, had too much finesse, height and experience for the Riccarton girls in the A game. However. L. Willson and C. Roberts played well I for Riccarton. Kaikorai deservedly won the soccer match. 2-0. Although Ric- • carton had many opportunities jit lacked the finish in its moves. M. Mole, goalkeeper, and S. ‘Thompson, at centre-half, were I the best Kaikorai players, and P. Rothwell and R. Black played ! constructive, intelligent soccer ifor Riccarton. - The boys’ hockey match and the harriers did not count towards the shield.
