‘NEED OF FUNDS’
Repertory Theatre Funds are needed to renovate the RepertoryTheatre. An appeal was made to members at a party in the Horticultural Hall which was called to mark the two hundredth performance of the society and the fortieth year of its history. The speaker was Mr T. W C. Totill who has been a member of the society for 38 years. “Our theatre is as old as the society, which constantly rejuvenates itself i with younger members who join the ranks. But our theatre has become gloomy and oldfashioned and is in great need of rejuvenation. “The Canterbury Professional Regional Theatre will make its headquarters here and make it a paying concern which makes an uplift very necessary "We intend to reconstruct the whole of the front area, and remake the interior decoration. For this the target is £BOOO. of which £5OOO must be ; found from members and friends. “We have weathered the advent of the talkies, a slump., a world war. .the colour films and now television. Each of these has been surmounted and so will this one with the help of each one of you.”
