WARNING TRIAL
|i Civil Defence Network I' A trial of the civil defence: communications system wasl held throughout New Zealand yesterday. The alerting message for] the Christchurch sub-region I was received by the Assistant: Town Clerk of the Christ-1 chureh City Council (Mr M. B. Hayes) at 11.20 am. and! the four phases of the warn-! ing system were completed in, less than half an hour. The first phase of the trial j comprised the receipt of the: message from the civil defence headquarters in Wei-; lington through police chan-; nels. its recording and au- : thenticating. In the second phase the! Christchurch area headquarters advised the Christchurch; Fire Brigade and the Wai-i rewa. Wainara. Cheviot, Ra-i nsiora. Ashburton, Ellesmere ;■ and Amur! councils, and re-; c»ived authenticating calls in i reply. In the third phase the six;] local councils, part of the 1 Christchurch area (Waimairi, i Lyttelton, Heathcote, Riccar- 1 ton, Halswell and Paparua) < were advised of the message. !
