20th Spin Of Year
The Te Rapa jockey, P. R. Wilson, had a stroke of good luck a year ago when he was engaged as a replacement for the injured P. K. Cathro for the Grand National Hurdles winner, Bagush. But this year has been one of mixed luck for Wilson. He had his twentieth spill of the year when Robert Earl was brought down in the Grand National Hurdles yesterday. From all his falls the most serious injury was one he suffered to his back at Paeroa towards the end of May. In consequence he missed the riding on Confer and Treble, big winners at the Great Northern meeting. Wilson escaped from his latest fall with no more than a shaking. He will ride at Riccarton on Saturday, when one of his engagements is for Alaine in the Lincoln Steeplechase. J. H. Hely has won twice on Alaine at the CJ.C. meeting, but will not be able to make the weight this time.
