Photographic Fair
Life in countries from India to America, New Zealand to Japan, will be the theme of a Pacific Photographic Fair in Melbourne early next year. The fair will include exhibitions, a photographic competition, and a symposium on major developments in photography. A “Miss Pacific” beauty contest will also be held. Prizes valued at more than A5OOO dollars, plus 70 awards are offered in the competition which has categories for organisations, newspapers and magazine photographers, and others throughout the world. Entries will be displayed in exhibitions throughout central Melbourne, and national exhibitions of one country’s [entries may be arranged. I The 500 award - winning photographs from the fair will be sent on tours of Europe, North and South ArneI rica and the Pacific area. With [them will go the winner of the “Miss Pacific” beauty quest, who will also receive a A5OOO dollar prize. Many overseas photographers are expected to attend the symposium. A 40-minute, 35mm. colour film of all aspects of the fair will be screened in 47 countries, with dubbed commentary in 21 languages. The fair will be held from March 3-12, when the 1967 Moomba Festival, including art, music, theatre, literature and sport, is on in Melbourne. It is planned to make the fair an annual event.
