CRITICISM OF BANKS
Facilities At Mangere (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Aug. 9. The limited banking facilities at Auckland airport came under fire from airlines tonight. Mr F. G. Hill, Air New Zealand’s New Zealand manager, said: “The 9.30 p.m. closing of the bank is very unfortunate in view of the recently imposed currency regulations. It is having an adverse affect on New Zealand's image abroad. ; “If we want to attract dollars into the country, we should provide facilities for travellers to change their money.” Mr Hill's comments were supported by Pan American and Qantas officials. A Bankers’ Association official said the matter of the early closing would be coming up for review in a fortnight but did not envisage an all-night service being introduced until the frequency of services was increased. “It is possible the system will revert to having someone on duty until the last flight is in or out.” Matters involving the early closing came to a head on Monday night when some of the 49 passengers on a Tahiti-bound airliner due to leave at midnight could not change their New Zealand currency.
