'KY RIGGING ELECTIONS'

SYDNEY, August 9. The coining South -Vietnamese elections were being “rigged”, and no opponent of Prime Minister Ky would be given a chance to stand for election.
A Labour member of Par liament, Dr. J. Cairns, saic this today when he returnee from a South-east Asian tour during which he spent foui days in South Vietnam. “There is no chance of t
democratic election under the military dictatorship of Prime Minister Ky,” Dr. Cairns said. “People opposing him claim that only Government sup-
• porters will be allowed to stand for election. “There will be no possibility of an anti-government representative even standing for election. 1 “The Buddhists are unanimous in claiming that the Ky Government is a bad government that stands no chance ' of gaining the support of the ' people,” he said. 1 Dr. Cairns said that some people in Saigon believed ' the war would last another ' 20 years. He said that he had dis- , cussed the Vietnam issue with military men, govern- 1 merit officials, civilians and ‘ the Buddhists. ‘
