Not Salvaging DC8

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, August 3. The Minister of Civil Aviation (Mr McAlpine) told Parliament today that both Air New Zealand and its insurers were of the opinion that no equipment salvaged from the DCS airliner which crashed at Mangere recent 1 y should be used in other aircraft.

Mr R. J. Tizard (Opp., Pakuranga) had asked if the Minister could indicate the value of usable equipment salvaged from the crashed DCS and whether the equipment could be used again by Air New Zealand to save overseas funds for replacement parts.

Mr McAlpine said the full cost of the wrecked plane was covered by Air New Zealand’s insurers in London. It was not yet possible to give an estimate of salvaged equipment.

In a supplementary question, Mr Tizard asked if equipment salvaged from an Electra aircraft which crashed in March last year was being used in another aircraft. Mr McAlpine said that two radio parts salvaged from an Electra had been used by Air New Zealand, but he did not (know how they were being I used. Not Repeating Film It was not proposed to give a repeat telecast of the 8.8. C. film, “Vietnam—People and the War,” which was shown on television on Monday night, said the Minister of Broadcasting (Mr Scott). Mr W. W. Freer (Opp., Mount Albert) had asked if, because many public-spirited people had been unable to see the programme, the Minister would consider a repeat broadcast, preferably on a Sunday evening. Mr Scott said the programme was advertised well in advance in the press and

on radio and television. This should have enabled people wanting to see the documentary to make other arrangements on that night, he said. Interest Charges Rates of interest charged by stock and station agents for advances to farmers were

usually between 7 and 7| per cent, said the Minister of Finance (Mr Lake). However, there were no official statistics on the total amount of interest charged, he said. Other rates might be set for overdue and special accounts.

He was replying to Mr N. V. Douglas (Opp., Auckland Central).
