RENTAL CARS

Increase In Charges (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Aug. 3. Charges for rental vehicles have been increased in a recent decision by the Transport Department. There has been an Increase of 5s to 15s for vehicles hired for a full seven-day week.

Charges for a business or five-day week have been increased 5s to 10s, depending on the type of vehicle. The daily rate has been increased by Is per day, and 2s a day for larger cars. The increases for week-end hire range from 2s fid to ss. There has been no increase in the mileage charge. The Commissioner of Transport (Mr J. Polaschek) said last year there was a radical change in the system of charges for rental vehicles. Experience had shown that the new schedule had decided advantages, but did not bring all of the increased revenue expected.
