WELLINGTON, Aug. 2.

The increases in salaries of air-traffic controllers announced today were “unacceptable,” the secretary of the Public Service Association (Mr D. P. Long) said tonight.

He said the association requested the Prime Minister for an urgent interview.

The association today received a letter from the chairman of the Cabinet Committee • o( Government Administration (Mr Shand) outlining the Government’s intentions, but the letter did not say an announcement would be made today. “We were very surprised at the Prime Minister’s announcement,” be said.

Mr Long said the details in Mr Shand’s letter matebed those announced by Mr Holyoake.
