Are Tours Worth It?
CARDIFF.
A Rugby tour of New Zealand would not be worth staging in future if provincial teams “rough it up" the way Auckland did against the Lions, wrote J. B. G. Thomas, in the “Western Mail.” “Auckland, led by their captain, Keith Nelson, charged in like dervishes in an attempt to take charge of the match,” he said. “The Lions retaliated. What else could they do?” The Lions, Thomas said, showed that they were not prepared to take rough play lying down any longer. “They are roaring back but such an approach should never be needed. That is the great disappointment of this tour.”
