Whineray To Return

(N.Z. Preu Auoclatlon) AUCKLAND

W. J. Whineray and D. M. Connor, two former All Blacks, have come out of retirement to help the Auckland Rugby team in its defences of the Ranfurly Shield. The chairman of the Auckland Rugby Union’s management committee, Mr R. L. Burk, announced the return of the two players at the committee’s meeting last evening. He said that Whineray and Connor had offered their services to the selector, Mr R. G. Sorenson, for the rest of the season and Mr Sorenson had been glad to accept.

Whineray said that he would be available only for Auckland games this season—whether the shield was held or not—but had no intention of being available for the All Blacks.
