Smith Sets Record
(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) SYDNEY. The trainer, T. Smith, and jockey, G. Moore, earned record stake money in winning the Sydney 1965-66 trainers' and jockeys’ premierships. Smith (88 wins and two deadheats) won 274,416 dollars and Moore (105 wins and three deadheats) 317,316 dollars.
S. Spinks (41 wins and a deadheat) made a post-war record In winning the apprentices’ premiership from R. Quinton. Pipe Of Peace was the leading sire with 47 wins and a dead-heat for 123,775 dollars in stakes.
In Melbourne. R. Higgins (47 wins) won the jockeys’ premiership from J. Johnson and H. White. These jockeys finished in the same positions in the 1964-65 season. P. Jarman (33 wins) was the leading apprentice.
D. Judd and A. Armanasco (18 wins) dead-heated in the trainers’ premiership, and Better Boy (21 wins for 107,400 dollars in stakes) was the leading sire.
