S.M. Favours Lowering (7V.Z. Press Association > AUCKLAND, July 29. A former Auckland Magistrate, who is again temporarily on the Bench, said he would like to see the drinking age in New Zealand lowered. Mr J. H. Luxford, S.M., told the Auckland Justices of the Peace Association that he believed the restrictions put on ' young people had been re- ' sponsible for the excessive ' drinking away from licensed premises. The subject had to be looked at more dispassionate- , ly, he said. If people under 21 were allowed to go to> licensed premises and drink; while under proper control j. the results would be better. I Education today was bring-1 Ing teen-agers far further for-| ward than previously, but i they were meeting restriction after restriction. The young were very conscious of these suppressions, which resulted in the excessive drinking away from licensed premises, he said.
