GRANTS TO SCHOOLS
Delaying Of Report The report of the joint inspectorate which investigated general purposes grants to high schools last year will not be released until the middle of next month, the New Zealand Secondary School Boards’ Association informed the Christchurch Secondary Schools’ Council. “Most people hoped this report would be available before the end of last year,” said the chairman of the council (Mr W. J. Cartwright). There was some consolation in the “indication” that any increases would be retrospective to February 1 this year. “We are a long way past February 1 and a good many high school boards are apprehensive about finance,” Mr Cartwright said. “I don’t know whether you want to enter any kind of protest at the delay,” he said. “Perhaps this is going to be an election-year plum," said Mr A. F. Foley. The council left the matter.
