U.S. Says Raids Having Results

' (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) SAIGON, July 27. The United States Military Command said today tangible results were beginning to accumulate to show that the daily B-52 jet bomber raids against the Viet Cong were not only demoralising to the enemy but were also lethal.

In a report on major war developments in the second quarter of this year, the command noted that on most days during the period there was a minimum of two raids by the giant, eight-jet bombers.

“Tangible results are beginning to accumulate both from ground sweeps through an area after a raid and from prisoner interrogations,” it said. It did not elaborate on the results.

The report said that tactical air strikes by fighterbombers in support of ground operations in South Vietnam averaged about 300 a day during the quarter. In assessing ground operations, the report said every large scale United States military action during the quarter was a search-and-destroy operation. “Some of these operations inflicted heavy losses on the enemy in terms of personnel killed or captured,” it said.
