‘LESSON FOR ALL’

Johnson Cites Britain

(N Z P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) INDIANAPOLIS. July 24.

President Johnson said yesterday that the American standard of living had improved faster than Britain’s because wage increases in the United States had not outstripped productivity.

Britain’s severe economic crisis, requiring a freeze on wages and prices, provided a lesson for all democracies that both business and labour must show restraint, he said.

The President, in a prepared address at the start of a four-state tour, used the British crisis as an example as he pledged his administration’s efforts to combat inflation.
