Negro Shot Dead

(X.Z. Press Assn. —Copyright) CLEVELAND.

(Ohio), July 24.

Police and 1750 National Guardsmen armed with mach-ine-guns and bayonets stood guard in riot-torn Cleveland today when renewed looting and arson broke out after the killing of another Negro. The fourth Negro to die in Cleveland since rioting broke out on Monday was Benoris Toney, aged 29, the father of five.

He died yesterday of gunshot wounds received when he apparently tried to escape from a car loaded with white youths.

Rocket Launched.—Japan yesterday successfully launched a three-stage rocket into the Van Allen radiation belt in an experimental firing designed to lead to the launching of a satellite by March 1968. The Lambda rocket, weighing 8.4 tons, was fired over the Pacific to a height of 1125 miles from Uchinoura, southern Japan.—Toyko, July 24.
