Blasting Reef
(New Zealand Press Association)
AUCKLAND, July 22. A team of New Zealand naval divers leaving for Western Samoa tonight and tomorrow morning will attempt to blast a shipping entrance in the reef surrounding the island port of Asau. If successful the team
could save the Samoan Government £250,000. The divers will use obsolete explosives—squid bombs used on Loch-class frigates—to try to widen the gap in the reef. If they are not successful a heavy dredge will have to be taken to Samoa to do the work.
