MONUMENT PROPOSED

(N Z. Press Association) INVERCARGILL. Mataura might soon support one of the most unusual monuments in New Zealand — a monument to the horse Cardigan Bay. The Mataura Junior Chamber of Commerce has undertaken to hold a public meeting in an effort to erect a suitable monument in the town in honour of Cardigan Bay. Mataura folk can be justly proud of Cardigan Bay’s achievements. He was bred at Todd Brothers’ stud, Chimes Lodge, and it was Mataura trainer D. Todd who gave him his grounding. His dam, Colwyn Bay, still runs on the stud property. Cardigan Bay, after sweeping all before him in New Zealand and Australia, has carried on to beat the best in the United States. His life stake-earnings now amount to more than £210,000.
