Car Driver Dies
(N.Z. Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH, July 20. A New Plymouth man who was injured when his car ran off the main highway about two miles north of Awakino at 11.15 a.m. yesterday died in the New Plymouth Hospital early today. He was William Granville Beckett, aged 73, of Somerset street Mr Beckett was the sole occupant of the car which, after leaving the road, flipped over, hit a power pole, then landed on its wheels against a fence down a 12ft bank.
Rubbish Fire.— Firemen from Woolston and Headquarters stations put out a large rubbish fire off Ruru road about 4.30 a.m. yesterday.
