RECREATION AREA

A further 1456 square yards had been added to the Diamond Harbour recreation area by bulldozing and levelling the large quantity of spoil dumped along the south and eastern ends of the area, the borough gardener (Mr A. Cable) reported to the Lyttelton Borough Council. The flat area had now been increased to 7964 square yards and when the new area was established it would make a large playing area. About 1000 square yards of the newly-levelled area had been sown with grass seed and the rest would be sown in the spring. The embankment area around the monkey puzzletree had been bulldozed and sown. It amounted to 1006 square yards.
