SKATER OF POTENTIAL

The fact that the Christchurch speed skater, K. Nicolle, was one of the four finishers In the gruelling New Zealand ice marathon at Lake Ida on Sunday lends support to the theory that he could make his mark over the middle distances if he applied himself. Nicolle trains only for the sprints and was

runner-up in the recent New Zealand 160 metres straight championship. He obviously has the basic speed required and with an extension of his training to cover longer distances such as the 5000 metres could well provide a threat to the established distance men next season. In the summer he keeps trim with field events athletics for the Toe H club.
