Ketch Free To Sail

(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, July 18. The 45ft ketch Makaretu, owned and skippered by Mr D. Harris, is no longer under seizure by the Customs Department. She is expected to leave on a 50-day cruise to New Caledonia early next month. The Makaretu was seized by the department when Mr Harris could not pay a deposit to cover possible penalties in a pending court action. Last month he pleaded guilty to five charges involving regulations which control the arrival and departure of ships on the New Zealand coast and smuggling. He was fined a total of £335.
