1000 Expected At Conference
One thousand observers and delegates from 990 institutes representing 53 federations will assemble in the Wellington town hall today for the Dominion biennial conference of the Country Women’s Institutes. The conference will end on Thursday. Lady Fergusson will open the conference and the Dominion president (Mrs E. D. Holt) will welcome the guests. Gold honour badges will be awarded and candidates for election will be introduced. Annual trophies will be presented at a social tonight. Delegates will be addressed by three speakers tomorrow. They are Mr C. A. Grams, assistant commissioner of the Social Security Department; Mr W. H. Birks, a Crown solicitor; and Mr M. O’Byrne, a former assistant officer of transport of the Education Department. On Thursday, Mr R. Dodson will speak on “The Challenge of Youth.”
