MT. PLEASANT AREA

Zoning Changes Disallowed Objections to the district planning scheme for the Mount Pleasant area formerly part of Heathcote county were disallowed by the City Council last evening. Two of the objections asked for the proposed zoning to be changed from rural to residential to permit subdivision, the town planning committee reported. The proposed rural zone in the council’s scheme comprised part of the Regional Planning Authority’s regional scheme which was legally binding on all local authorities. The appropriate time to consider the objections would be when the regional authority’s proposals for a review were known. An objection on behalf of the Mount Pleasant War Memorial Community Centre had expressed concern at the lack of flat areas for recreation in the Cannon Hill Estate subdivision.
