MAY BECOME DOMAIN

Loch Katrine Area The Lands and Survey Department is considering proposals for development in the Loch Katrine area, near Lake Sumner. It may create a domain in the area and vest it in the Waipara County Council as a domain board. This would be a similar arrangement to that for the Motunau beach settlement. The scheme would involve improving the road from Lake Taylor to Loch Katrine to provide an all-weather route. A verbal report was given to the July meeting of the council at Waikari on discussions with representatives of the department. The District Commissioner of Crown Lands (Mr N. S. Coad) said in a letter that new proposals for the land involved were being prepared and discussions would be held with the council later. In the meantime the council was asked not to issue any building permits for huts, boat sheds, slipways, or other buildings near Lake Sumner and the neighbouring lakes.
