(N.Z. Press Association— Copyright) SHEFFIELD. Two Christchurch riders, the former world champion, Barry Briggs, and I. Mauger, were the stars of the Nordic-British speedway final at Sheffield on Thursday night.

Briggs won with 15 points and Mauger was second with 13. For the first half the 16 speedway stars played “fol-low-my-leader” round the track. Then, in the 13th heat, when the crowd was beginning to get a ittle bored, Briggs had a tremendous battle with a Scottish rider, K. McKinley, and only narrowly managed to beat him. It was not a good night for the Nordic riders as only one of them qualified to go through in the top eight. Fishing Contest.— -Two New Zealand clubs, Mercury Bay and Bay of Islands, are among 69 teams to compete in the eigth annual Hawaiian Internation biiHlflsh tournament, which starts at Honolulu on Monday. Rowing Manager.— Mr H. T. Jellie has been appointed manager of the New Zealand representative eight-oared crew to compete in the world championships at Bled, Jugoslavia, In September.
