The Inter-Island Shipping Company’s 208-ton Waiotahi, which was caught on a mud bank in the Waimakariri river on July 6, ran aground at the river mouth about 1.30 p.m. yesterday. An attempt to slide the ship off under her own power is planned for 2.30 a.m. today, at high tide. If this fails, another attempt is to be made this afternoon, when a bulldozer may be used to haul the ship. Carrying 150 tons of general cargo from Wellington to Kaiapoi, the Waiotahi was caught by breakers as she entered the river mouth, and was swung against the current on to the northern spit.
