PROFIT OF £4883
A profit of £4883 is reported in the accounts to be presented to the annual meeting of the New Brighton Trotting Club next Thursday. Last year the club showed a loss of £5331. Although the club had enjoyed fine weather,, attendances had not been as high as had been hoped, except for the spring meeting on the night of the Rugby test, said the report of the president (Mr H. E. Cook). That meeting, together with the benefits derived from the concessions granted in the 1965 Budget, had contributed to this year’s profits.
The club had held four meetings this season, against five the previous year, and as a result major items of income and expenditure were reduced. On-course totalisator turnover for the season exceeded £396,000, and off-course exceeded £416,000. The combined turn-over of £813,000 gave the club a record average a meeting. The report refers to the deaths during the year of more than 20 members. No elections will be necessary for any of the positions on the executive. Stakes distributed during the year amounted to £25,450, an average of £6362 a meeting, compared with £29,850, an average of £5970 a meeting for the previous year. Other items of expenditure for four meetings, with the figures for the previous year for five meetings in parentheses, were:—Contribution to Addington Trotting Course, Ltd., £12,597 (£11,349); race meeting expenses, £6853 (£7690); totalisator expenses, £6845 (£8035); administration expenses, £4886 (£5145); Trotting Conference levies, £l5BO (£1427). Totalisator receipts of £45,832 provided most of the club’s income. These showed an increase over the previous year’s £42,838. Gates receipts showed a marked increase, amounting to £6283, an average of £1570 a meeting, compared with £5743, an average Scratchings AVONDALE Whau Steeples: Tirteen.
