NATIONAL SCHOOL
No N.Z. Need I Seen A national apprentice training school would be an ideal but not suited to New Zealand, the Committee of Inquiry reported. “Having regard to the geographical situation of New Zealand, the establishment of a school would not be a practical proposition on a national basis. The committee said that in the three areas where schools were being conducted the percentage of apprentices was higher than in other areas of New Zealand, and strongly recommended that district committees did their best to establish similar schools within their own districts. Higher Fees Advocated An increase in riding fees, which had remained unchanged for several years, was recommended by the Committee of Inquiry on Racing. Although the committee was not prepared to recommend that jockeys should have the right to be represented by counsel before judicial committees, it recommended that jockeys should be accompanied, if they desired. by an accredited representative of the Jockeys’ Association.
