ARGENTINA PRESIDENT

Ongania Takes Office (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter) BUENOS AIRES, June 29. Lieutenant - General Juan Carlos Ongania became Argentina's new President today with almost unlimited powers to rule. He took the oath of office In Government House, which was packed with service officers as witnesses, little more than 24 hours after the bloodless military coup which deposed the elected President Rlia. The 52-year-old retired Army General, known as a tough anti-Communist and anti-Peronist, was installed by the three-man military junta which toppled Dr. Illia’s civilian administration. General Ongania is expected to move swiftly against Peronists—supporter of the former dictator, Juan Peron, deposed in 1955.
