Hastings To Celebrate

(Special Crspdt. N.Z.P.A.) HASTINGS (Sussex), June 30. Hastings, a seaside resort on the southern coast of England, will celebrate the 900th anniversary of the Battle of Hastings next week. Two of the main guests will be the Mayor of Hastings, New Zealand (Mr ' R. V. Giorgi), and its 1965 Blossom Queen, Miss Christine Coleman.

Mr Giorgi is on a civic visit to the city, and Miss Coleman will be the city's guest during the week-long celebrations. Next Wednesday, at an evening carnival procession, 22-year-old Miss Coleman will ride on a floral float which has been provided by the New Zealand Government and the Apple and Pear Board. The 25ft long float, decorated with apple blossom, mimosa, apples and pears will distribute New Zealand fruit among the crowd. A plaque of the Hastings (New Zealand) coat of arms

will be presented by Miss Coleman to the Mayor of Hastings. Miss Coleman, who is on tour as part of her prize, has just spent three weeks in America and is now in London. She will return to New Zealand in three months, when the 1966 Blossom Queen will be chosen. The link between the two towns of Hastings has been maintained since the Second World War when the people of Hastings (New Zealand) sent food parcels to their sister city.
